LibraryThing is running a special seasonal promo called SantaThing.For $25 you can become a secret santa to a library thing member. Thursday, 12/13 noon is the last day to join. Once you join, you get a member, and pick a book for them -- someone will get your name and pick a book for you too. LibraryThing takes care of the shipping.
A fun twist on the virtual social community meeting physical, tangible services. I imagine libraries could implement this too, only we could allow customers to reserve a book for other customers based on profiles for free! It could be a fun virtual meets physical program idea. Hmmm....
